Time To Get Naked

Most radio station charity drives are really kind of like muggings:
Us: Give us stuff. Listener: Why? Us: Because we told you to.
Works for me. But then again, I also stole food from other kids at lunch when I was in 4th grade.
IF ... you can give them a reason or, better yet, a product or a service? That's great. What do people do in Phoenix when they need to raise funds? They do car washes. How do the football players from my local high school raise money? They bag groceries one weekend at Cub.
A few years ago a girl from our community got cancer. Beat it. And then it came back with a vengeance. In little 'ole Scandia, MN, the people got together and did "Scandia Au Naturale," which was a calendar that featured qw photos of various civic leaders (Cat the bartender at the Brookside qualifies in Scandia) in stages of APPARENT nudity. Were they shown naked? Please....
These nice quality calendars were sold for $20 apiece and along with a charity event that rivaled most things I've ever seen a radio station do, raised $70,000 for Jenna's treatment.
"But Paige, we can't just have our DJs naked in a calendar!"
Listen to yourself. THEY WEREN'T NAKED. And we're in the Fart Joke Medium. We can pretty much do whatever we want because our credibility was shot decades ago. And if the neocon citizens of the 651 can pose strategically naked, so can your DJs.
Great opportunity for client involvement, too. And we're heading into Calendar Season this December because nothing says "I felt like I needed to get you something but couldn't think of anything..." like a calendar for a Christmas present.
This appears again on my radar because they've done another calendar for a local woman who has terminal cancer and staggering medical bills. A quick preview of it is at http://www.vernapittsphotography.com/calendar
